I'm a Software Engineer by day, and Metalsmith by night and on weekends.
I've been forging steel since 2007, and immediately fell in love with metalsmithing.
In January 2009, I decided to try out the smaller end of metalsmithing
and started studying jewelry making at Metalwerx Jewelry School. I now make
mostly jewelry and some household forged items.
You can purchase my work at my Etsy shop
and see past work at my Metalwork Picasa album
I made my own forge shortly after going as far as I could in classes.
You can see how I made it at my Making my forge Picasa album
A shout out goes to Prospect Hill Forge for their awesome blacksmithing classes,
to Metalwerx for their excellent jewelry making classes, and to David S. Dowling
for his really cool electrolytic etching class.
Much of my jewelry has an etched component to it, whether it's a background texture,
or part of the look of the piece itself. I've done quite a bit of etching and thought that
others may benefit from my experiences. So, I've made available a free online
Electrolytic Etching Tutorial that covers copper, brass, steel and silver etching.
I also make a lot of rings, and since calculating ring blank length is a very
cumbersome and error prone process, I decided to automate it by writing a simple
free online calculator.
